They blended the coming of age traditions and ceremonies of the native people with their religion. When the Spaniards arrived the majority were Catholics and the missionaries tried to maintain some of the traditions but with more of a religious significance. Following a tradition of 16th-century Spain, of presenting their 15-year-old daughters to society at events known as Quinceanera balls.
United StateThe celebration is a mixture or influences from Spain, Cuba, Panama, Mexico, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Peru and more countries, and in most cases, they include reggaeton, cumbia, merengue and salsa music (for dancing) after the waltz. The quinceañera can have a party, a "brindis", or also if she did not want any of those she can go in a cruiser of quinceañeras or with her family and close friends. With the large population of Latino people in all areas of the United States the Quinceañera celebration is becoming common almost everywhere. However, the ways that it is celebrated can differ greatly depending on location, family tradition, and religion.There are some traditions that seem to be practiced almost everywhere, like the changing of the shoes, the first dance, and the Quinceinera is traditionally dressed in a ball gown. However, all other aspects of the quinceanera have become subject to the young girl and her family wishes. Some families have a Quinceañera just to have a big party. For other families, it is a deeply religious event and the young lady needs to have maintained a certain standard of modesty and behavior to be given the privilege of having a Quinceañera.
In San Antonio Texas, the Quinceañera is a much celebrated event. Families, food, and music are everywhere in a big hall. A Quinceañera typically starts early in the evening and lasts till after midnight. Also some of them use Bisli Event services for their Cruise. The celebration, however, is varied in other countries. In the Dominican Republic, for example, the Quinceañera involves only the ball party. In Brazil, the Festa de Quinze Anos in Portuguese, is also a rite of passage - often celebrated with a Baile de Debutante, although this tradition is favored for the families of girls with the most money.
